TO MR. ANDRÉS NÚÑEZ
SONNET

Am I a full wiseman,
with knowladge and imagination?
that I am familiar with Talia
and in the top of the Pindo I am sitted?

It must be so, I have ignored it
and although for a fool I considered me,
from Nuñes, the sweetness and melody,
from this “craso” error has removed me.

So I thought, friend, and boastful,
I noticed your verses, and in an instant,
down came señor Apolo loudly,

and looking at me with angry faced,
he said: Nuñez is very loving,
his love decives him, you are ignorant.

He said and flew — your servant
without shame at end — Joaquín
will not make boast of his knowladg — Lizarde.

Never was dissapointment late
to arrive to the prudent
belive then, that it is not wise, not
your servany:
